Fitch sees potential for raising Russia’s rating

MOSCOW, Sep 26 (PRIME) -- International rating agency Fitch sees potential to increase Russia’s rating from BBB-, Erich Arispe, director of the agency’s sovereign ratings group, said on Tuesday at a conference of the agency.

On September 22, Fitch improved the outlook on issuer default ratings of Russia to positive from stable.

“Russia is the first sovereign that received a rating of Fitch and is changing the trend of expectations in the credit cycle, I mean that the rating has not just stabilized, but appears to have potential for an increase. This is reflected in the positive outlook,” he said.

Currently, only Fitch rates Russia at the lowest investment grade. The other two largest international agencies rate Russia as junk – Standard & Poor’s at BB+ with a positive outlook, while Moody’s at Ba1 with a stable outlook.
